1 〔用事〕 (your) business [errand, concern]. [＝ようじ⁴]

●〔電話などで〕 代わりに御用をうかがっておきましょうか. Is there any way I can help you [May I enquire as to the nature of your business] (in his stead)?

●(店員が顧客に) 何か御用はありませんか. How may I be of assistance? | Is there any way I can help you?

・お父さんが御用ですよ. Your father wants you.

・(訪問者に) 何の[何か]御用ですか. What can I do for you? | Is there something I can do for you?

・はい, お安い御用です. Certainly, with pleasure.

2 〔公用〕 official business [mission]; government [public] service.

3 〔注文〕 an order; a favor.

●客の御用を承る attend to a customer; 〔引き受ける〕 execute a commission for a customer.

●今日は御用はございませんか. Do you have any order [anything] for me today?

4 〔捕縛〕 an arrest; a capture.

●御用に[と]なる 〔捕縛される〕 be arrested [nabbed, captured].

●御用だっ! You're under arrest. | 〔追うとき〕 Stop [Halt] in the name of the law.
